Living the Dream in Mauritius with Nobile

After spending 36 days in Mauritius, I’ve come to the conclusion that all you really need to be happy there is a bit of wind, an old pickup for hauling your Nobile gear, and a fresh baguette from the GSR stores. Mauritius is an absolutely perfect place for kitesurfing enthusiasts — both for those who prefer the calm, waist-deep lagoon conditions, and for those who want to experience raw, pure wave riding.
Mauritius offers waves that feel almost laboratory-perfect. I rode in two spots: the first one was the iconic Manawa, and the second — the legendary One Eye. The waves there can reach 3–4 meters, and sometimes even bigger monsters show up. There’s a naturally created order on the water — none of that wave chaos you might find in Brazil or even on our Baltic Sea. The swell lines up perfectly, straight and clean.
Between those two kite spots, there’s also the famous underwater waterfall, which at first glance makes you feel like it might pull you under. And if you’re lucky, you might run into top pro riders like Mitu Monteiro — who’ll happily give you a high-five — or Machu Lopez. If you’re more into nature, you can also spot turtles, sailfish, and with a lot of luck, even a sperm whale. Local riders cruise right next to you like it’s nothing, and the whole vibe is super chill.
As for gear — for the lagoon and 23+ knot conditions, I brought the new Nobile Horizon 9 m: long hang time, natural bar lightness, and excellent control. I paired it with the legendary 50/50 board from the latest collection in size 139. For catching waves, the Nobile One was a perfect match — you barely feel it in the air, yet it pulls just when you need it. On the wave, it behaves like your shadow. I also rode the 6.0 Nobile Wave board, made in collaboration with the Portuguese brand Cohete.
I’m heading back there next year. I can’t wait!
